PSC Researchers Attended the 35th International Geological Congress

The 35thInternational Geological Congress opened on Cape Town, South Africa on August 27th.
The conference lasted for 8 days and intrigued more than 4200 delegates
from 115 countries. The theme of this conference was “Geoscience for
society, Foundamental geoscience and Geoscience in the economy”. The
conference had 48 scientific sessions and contains various exhibitions
and youth education programs.
The International Geological Congress has a long history. The first conference was held on 1961 and the following conferences opened every 4 years. It’s the most important forum for the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) to display its research discoveries, so called “the Olympic of Geoscience” and honored in the world geoscience society.

10 PSC members attended the conference, some of which hosted the
sessions. Those problems were discussed such as the origin of the early
life, the Carboniferous stratigraphy, the integrative stratigraphy and
environment of Permian and Triassic, the Jurassic ecological crisis, the
Cretaceous sea level changes and the Cenozoic biome and environment
changes. The honored member SHA Jingeng, the Deputy President TONG
Jinnan, the General Secretary WANG Yongdong, some other members of PSC
and some renowned paleontological scientists and young researchers
participated in the conference and were involved in the fieldwork.
