The 28th Annual Academic Conference of the PSC was Held Successfully in Shenyang

The Annual Academic Conference of the PSC was held successfully in Shenyang, Liaoning Province on August 11th -14th.
The conference was hosted by the PSC and co-organized by the Nanjing
Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, the Shenyang Normal University
and the Paleontological Museum of Liaoning. About 450 experts and
researchers from 90 colleges and institutes (including 2 colleges from
abroad) attended the conference. It was the biggest nationwide academic
annual conference ever held in the Northeast part of China since the
dawn of this century.
The conference had received nearly 300 abstracts from the participants, contained 267 reports assigned in 21 sessions (6 keynote reports, 215 session reports, 46 posters) and discussed comprehensive issues about the branches of paleontology, such as the paleontological education, museums and popular science and fossil conservation. The participants reported the new progress and recent achievements of the paleontological studies in China, including the invertebrate paleontology, micropaleontology, paleobotany and palynology, vertebrate paleontology, paleoanthropology, stratigraphy, biogeography and paleoenvironment, molecular paleontology, geobiology, sedimentology and geochemistry. In the conference, 6 scientists such as LUO Zhexi, JIN Xiaochi, SUN Ge, ZHANG Kexin, WANG Xiaolin and HUANG Diying were invited to make the special reports on the Jurassic mammaliamorphs, the Permian paleogeographic evolution, the Cretaceous flora, China oceanic plates, the pterosaurs and the insect-vertebrate animal interactions, respectively.
The Annual Conference awarded the PSC Youth Fellowship of the paleontology to 4 young scientists, whose names are WANG Bo (NIGP), WANG Shiqi (IVPP), QUAN Cheng (Jilin U) and WU Huaichun (CUG, Beijing). The conference also recognized 5 museums as the National Popularization Bases of Science and Technology. Those museums, such as the Museum of the Liaoning Chaoyang Bird Fossil National Geopark, Dalian Natural Museum and so on, received the awarding plates as the popularization base certificates. In addition, 20 graduate students were granted the Excellent Oral Reports Awards and 5 the Excellent Poster Awards. Finally, the 3rd Session of the 11th PSC Council Meeting was held.
The Participants also visited the Mesozoic Jehol Biota section
in Beipiao, Chaoyang and Paleozoic section in Benxi during the
conference. The on-the-spot meetings of these sections in the geoparks
and the integrative surveys on them and the Paleontological Museum of
Liaoning proved to be successful.
